  • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 11) Event Flims

The Spanking artist Copper continues hie extensive examination of the history of Male on Male Spanking videos

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS
    EVENT FILMS

EVENT VIDEOS was the spanking-arm of BG Enterprises who have produced male erotic videos for decades. Their real specialty has always been wrestling and body-builder videos, although over the years they have ventured into other fetish related topics.

Beginning in 1995, the earliest Event spanking videos were produced by BG Enterprises, but released through JetSet Productions. Later, Renegade Videos took over the distribution of all Event products. Although they were advertised as “spanking videos,” like most studios, the CP inevitably leads to overt sex between the top and bottom(s). After several years of regularly producing spanking videos, starting in 1997 they stopped regular production and only released new products from time-to-time.

Event Videos originally sold for $59.95 and were released only on VHS cassettes. Later, the same titles were re-released on DVD as well as on the BG Enterprises Pay-Per-View website. In all, there were 28 titles in the Event spanking video catalog.

    In alphabetical order, those videos were: “Ass Slappin’ (1 – 3)”, “Berlin Butt Blast”, “Bodybuilder Spank”, “Busted”, “Dr. Discipline (1 – 3)”, “Ren’s Den (1 – 6)”, “Sex Spank (1 – 3)’, “Spankfest (1 – 6), “Spanking Table” and “Spanking Psych Doctor (1 & 2)”.

A few Event Videos still remain accessible on the internet. A check of the BGWrestling.TV Site revealed a few spanking titles. This site requires a membership and charges customers by-the-minute to watch their videos. Minutes range from 20-cents to 66-cents, depending on the amount purchased.

Attached are several examples of the flyers that Event used to advertise their latest products.

  • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 10) Daddy Howard

A further instalment of the Artist’s Copper’s history of Male Spanking videos

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS

    DADDY HOWARD VIDEOS

DADDY HOWARD (real name Howard Hyatt) was a staple in the gay BDSM scene in San Francisco, California since the early 1980’s. He was a member of “The 15 Association,” and an active participant in the Folsom Street Fair for a number of years. Howard was a very over-weight, bearded, bear-type, who was always the only top in his videos.

Howard purchased a video camera in the late 1980’s and he frequently videotaped his spanking sessions. In the early-90’s, he began sharing them with friends. Then, with the popularity of the internet, in 1998 Howard opened a website, offering his videos for sale on VHS cassettes. These were “home movies” at best, often using a single unmanned camera, with no editing or storylines. He eventually began using two cameras, alternating between the two angles. In order to make his videos last longer, he often offered “raw video” from both cameras following the edited version, effectively tripling the film’s running time. In most cases he would have the models masturbate after the spanking.

The vast majority of Daddy Howard’s videos had no real plot – simply men being ordered to strip and bend over while Howard spanks them with a variety of tools. Later in his career, he began suggesting stories, although minimal, and still focusing on boys quickly getting naked and spanked.

Daddy Howard videos were only available on VHS cassettes and sold for $20 each. Since they were created at home by connecting two VHS tape machines, he would often create custom videos for regular customers by combining a couple of scenes on a single cassette for a reduced price. Starting in September of 2009, Howard began posting his video collection on the Clips4Sale site, under the studio name Spank-The-Boy Videos (Store #11047). The videos now ranged in price from $4.99 to $28.99, depending on the quality and running time of the clip.

As mentioned in a previous article, Howard was featured in one commercial video, “The Misadventures of Rusty,” released by the Santa Barbara Paddle Co. in 1997. While no one knows exactly how many videos of Howard spanking men were made over the years, he offered 179 different titles for sale.

Also, in 2009 Howard left San Francisco and moved to Ontario, Canada to live with his new husband. He continued producing videos, even though his health was failing. The last video posted by Daddy Howard was “Wanker at 19” posted to Clips4Sale on December 1, 2013. Howard Hyatt passed away on Christmas Day in 2017.

You can find a couple of Daddy Howard videos (“The Last Straw” and “Fernando”) on Pornhub, but the vast majority of his catalog is still available for purchase by download through Clips4Sale. Naturally it is uncertain how long his “studio” will remain on that site.

Attached are a few remnants of Howard’s videos including his favorite face shot (above), a couple images of him spanking, a page from his first, typewritten “catalog” and then two pages of never-before-published photographs that were taken behind the scenes during the taping of his segment from “The Misadventures of Rusty.”

  • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 9) Sundaze Films

The popular Spanking artist Copper continues his entertaining journey through the History of Male on Male Spanking videos

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS

    SUNDAZE FILMS

In the late 1980’s, SUNDAZE PRODUCTIONS made a short-lived appearance on the male spanking scene. Based in Palm Springs, California, a local dentist, Gary Scott (not his real name), began filming his regular spanking sessions for his own pleasure. These videos were shot using models, most of whom were male-prostitutes that he picked up in locally or in Hollywood. After seeing the success of production companies like Studio-7 and Man’s Hand Films, Scott decided to offer his videos for sale on VHS cassettes. The “Sundaze” logo seen at the beginning of each video was actually the sign on the wall of an apartment building that he owned, and most of the sessions were shot there. Scott sold the videos for $39.95, about half the price of his competitors. Gary would often communicate with his mail-order customers, offering to customize cassettes for them, combining specific videos or models.

With a very few exceptions, Gary was the spanker in all of his videos and kept his face off camera. The first video offerings (“Butt Whipping 1&2”) were compilations of short segments with mostly faceless young men being whipped with a belt. After that, he began creating simple plotlines that could be shot in a living room or bedroom. In addition to the spanking videos, Sundaze Films also released five “Solo Sex” videos with the models masturbating (often after being spanked).

Since most of his “models” were hustlers, he would frequently ply them with alcohol or narcotics, and it often showed in their slow and garbled reactions to the severe beatings that they endured. It was rumored that one of his competitors threatened to notify law enforcement of the possibility that he was employing under-age models after drugging them, which could have resulted in the loss of his state license, in addition to all of the legal ramifications. Whether that was the reason or not, less than two years after the introduction of Sundaze Films, the company suddenly stopped all production and no longer offered their videos for sale.

Over those two years, Sundaze Films offered a total of twenty videos, featuring over fifty models being spanked. The tapes have not been available since the early 90’s, although rare copies sometimes surface. The one exception is on PornHub, where one Sundaze video (titled “Andy Spanked to Tears”) has been misidentified as a Studio-7 product.

One interesting side-note: The apartment building with the “Suzdaze” sign that was used for the opening credits of his videos still exists and can be found at 621 S. Riverside Dr. in Palm Springs, 92264.

Attached are a few of the original photo-copied flyers for Sundaze Videos that were sent to his regular customers (note his hand-written note on the second page). There was never an actual catalog or any published advertising for the Sundaze Films.

  • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 8) The Santa Barbara Paddle Company

The US Spanking artist Copper continues to inform and entertain us with his vast knowledge of the history of Male Spanking films

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS – SANTA BARBARA PADDLE COMPANY

Claiming to be the first male-spanking business on the internet, the SANTA BARBARA PADDLE CO. was a very unique company. It began as a literal paddle company that sold a variety of wooden paddles specifically for erotic encounters. Founded by Rick Matthews (not his real name) in 1994, SBPC’s parent company was known as The Patriot Group (or TPG) and was responsible for financing the on-line site.

Part of Matthews’ original goal was to connect spankers and spankees, and in 1995 he created the “Smack Roster,” an international directory of guys who were into corporal punishment. Subscriptions were $30 per year and included a personal ad with a photograph. The roster was going to be updated quarterly, but unfortunately it never got off the ground.

Matthews’ next attempt to connect C. P. fans was through the creation of an on-line fraternity that he named Chi-Delta-Theta. Here, guys that were into paddling could connect with other guys in their region to undergo a series of prescribed “ordeals.” Successfully accomplishing the ordeals would result in “Brotherhood” status and would then allow them to initiate others into the fraternity. While there was some initial success, most tops refused to submit to the ordeals and this plan also fizzled out.

Beginning in the mid-1990’s, Santa Barbara Paddle Co. finally found their niche as an on-line distributor for all of the major producers of male-spanking videos. For $29.95 to $59.95, the company sold VHS copies of spanking films from Bacchus, Brick House, Control-T, Event, Filmco, Man’s Hand, Paradox Pictures and Studio-7. They also offered a small selection of non-spanking videos that featured fetishes such as bondage and wrestling.

In 1997, Santa Barbara Paddle Co. released their first original video, “The Misadventures of Rusty.” Conceived and directed by Randy King, this video was originally to be produced and financed by Man’s Hand Films, but when disagreements about the film’s direction and the fact that at least one model failed to provide the required legal identification, Man’s Hand decided not to release it. King then offered it to S.B.P.C., who sold it at the premium price of $69.95 and the film turned out to be a success for them.

Around 2001, Rick Matthews relocated to San Diego, but retained the Santa Barbara name. He also decided that he would try his hand at video production and turned out a handful of somewhat dreadful spanking films, almost always with himself as the top and Bill Alexander as the beefy bottom. The initial videos were of such poor quality that they were marketed as “Rick and Bill’s Home Videos.” To the best of my knowledge, S.B.P.C. produced seven of these original videos.

In 2004, the owners of TropiXXX Videos, Marty Graw and Alex Colton, visited S.B.P.C. while exploring a move to the west coast from their home in Colorado. While in San Diego, they joined Matthews in his dungeon to film several scenarios with Rick paddling Alex, but these were later released by TropiXXX and not Santa Barbara.

Since that time, the company has simply disappeared. A search for Santa Barbara Paddle Company. resulted in lots of recreational sporting sites for canoeing and surfing, but none of their original videos. The only video products I was able to locate were the ones that were released by TropiXXX.

I am including a couple of S.B.P.C.’s earliest catalog covers, as well as a (rather boring) page of their video listings. There is also a flyer for a spanking party that they co-hosted following the 1999 Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco and the flyer from the release of their “Misadventures of Rusty” video. Finally, I am attaching six behind-the-scenes photographs that were taken during the making of their “Rusty” video and have never been published before.

  • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 7) Athletic Model Guild

The artist Copper’s series on the history of Male Spanking Movies continues.

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS – ATHLETIC MODEL GUILD

The very first company to ever produce all-male spanking films for commercial release was the ATHLETIC MODEL GUILD founded by Bob Mizer in December of 1945. Mizer’s career in photographing male nudes actually began in 1942, although it hit a major set-back when he was convicted of having sex with a minor who was modeling for him in 1947. Mizer was sentenced to a labor camp in Saugus, California, and then he was arrested again in 1954 for the unlawful distribution of obscene material through the U.S. mail.

In spite of this, Mizer went on to become one of the true pioneers of “beefcake” photography, founding the “Physique Photo News,” but changing the name to “Physique Pictorial” in 1951. During his 50-plus year career, Bob would see society evolve, eventually allowing photographs and videos showing full-frontal nudity and bodily contact. In the winter of 1957, Bob expanded A.M.G. from simply still photographs to include films that were released on 8mm prints and sold for $12 each.

In addition to his nude photography, Physique Pictorial also included many drawings by erotic artists like George Quaintance, Harry Bush and Tom of Finland. In return for allowing their illustrations to be published, Miser gave them free advertising for their own mail order service, and encouraged their creation of mostly taboo art. The example that I have included is the front and back covers from May of 1964 by Tom of Finland.

In March of 1959, an A.M.G. film called “Bathroom Athlete” had a storyline with a bodybuilder flexing and posing in front of a mirror while his two younger brothers spy on him, resulting in the first-ever spanking scene in an adult movie. The reaction to the spanking was so good that Mizer continued making videos with similar themes.

The vast majority of Athletic Model Guild’s early films were simply a single model posing in a G-string. Later, Mizer began pairing models together, again posing together, but eventually wrestling and spanking each other. In 1980, Bob Mizer began experimenting with the new technology of video tape, and in November of 1983 he released his first features on VHS and Beta cassettes. The cost of these tapes was $40 for a 30-minute tape $75 for an hour-long tape and $125 for a 2-hour long video.

While some AMG Spanking Videos had very simplistic stories, the vast majority are simply two models spanking each other, usually switching positions halfway through. These videos are titled simply with the names of the two models, and they are not consistent (like alphabetically, in order of the spankings, etc.). In June of 1987, Bob Mizer wrote the following in Physique Pictorial:

HALF THOUSAND SPANKING PAIRS FROM AMG

At first, we were surprised at the number of customers who asked us for spanking photos and films, and we were even more amazed at how many of the models really seemed to enjoy the action. Only a few have refused to take part in the action, though most would much prefer to be on the giving than on the receiving end. But at AMG we are democratic and make sure that both get to enjoy the fun.

Unpublished Copper Part 1 of 2

As the staff artist for Mans Hand Films for a quarter of a century, the Spanking Artist Copper, had prepared two sets of illustrations for Mans Hand Films “Red Tails” magazine before Mans Hand decided to cease publication in January of this year. Hence these illustrations have never been published before.

The first of these are on a historical theme for the “British Column” and include a black and white illustration, together with a four page cartoon story.

Meanwhile, you can view more of Copper’s work HERE

  • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 6) Mans Hand Films

Continuing the Artist Copper’s series on the history of Male Spanking Videos, today the focus turns to Mans Hand Films

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS – MAN’S HAND FILMS

Another one of the very first studios to specialize in male-spanking videos is MAN’S HAND FILMS, founded by British-born David Stuart (real name St. John Leslie-Stuart) in April of 1984. Located in San Francisco, California, Stuart had a background in theater and film and he began shooting short silent films on 8mm with Bob Mizer, the owner of the renowned Athletic Model Guild located in Los Angeles. Unlike Mizer’s erotic films that emphasized models posing or wrestling, Stuart’s films had a plot, normally with a humorous undertone.

About the same time, MHF produced a series of audio-tapes that they called “Read Tales” (pronounced as in the past tense “red”). In 1989, Stuart sold the earliest of his films to Bijou Distributors in Chicago, in order to raise money for a (non-spanking) feature film that he wanted to produce. Bijou repackaged the films into several hour-long compilations on video-cassette. This explains why the studio’s current catalog begins with video number 119.

St. John Leslie-Stuart succumbed to chronic emphysema in January of 1991.

Prior to his death, John enlisted the assistance of Gilbert Connelly (not his real name) in San Francisco, who inherited the corporation and took over the operations of Man’s Hand Films. That year, Gil directed his first film, “The Nephew” (MHV-123). Over the years, the films began to evolve into longer and more serious disciplinary scenes. Mr. Connelly occasionally invited new directors to shoot videos, and he began shooting on location, to give his films a more authentic look.

Man’s Hand Films originally retailed for $49.95 to $59.95 each, depending on the running time and/or quality of the video. In 2008, the entire catalog was digitally remastered and offered on DVD’s, now selling for $34.95.

In addition to film products, in 1992 Gil Connelly began publishing Red Tails Magazine, a quarterly publication. Starting as a 22-page bi-monthly, it evolved from a photocopied newsletter to an on-line publication in 2006 that is in full-color and exceeds 50-pages per issue. Additionally, Man’s Hand published seven “Spanking Anthologies,” an art calendar and a 100-page book, “The Art of Spanking.”

In 2000, Man’s Hand Films relocated its headquarters to North Hollywood, California, where they continued to produce spanking videos and publish Red Tails. They watched as their primary competitors (Control-T, Studio-7, et al.) disappeared from the scene, in addition to dozens of studios that cropped up during the advent of the digital age, and then went away just as quickly. While most of the competition relied on including sex or other fetishes in their videos to reach a wider audience, Man’s Hand stayed true to the founder’s vision and created products for the small, but loyal, niche of male-spanking fans.

Beginning in 1985, Man’s Hand Films opened “Camp Red Tails,” an annual spanking event in Northern California. Originally a 3-day weekend at the Saratoga Springs resort, the camp now runs for 6-days every July, attracting spanking fans from around the world.

During the AIDS crisis, Man’s Hand Films wanted to give-back to the community, so in 1994 they began sponsoring a “Spanking Booth” at the annual Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. At the booth, they charged a dollar-a-swat, and customers could either give or get spanked, with all of the donations going to the AIDS Emergency Fund of San Francisco. Over the next 18-years, Man’s Hand Films would raise over $68,000 for the charity.

In January of 2020, Gil Connelly decided to retire. After more than 35-years in business, producing more than 150 videos, hosting Camp Red Tails for a quarter-of-a-century, and publishing more than 100 issues of Red Tails Magazine, the company stopped production of new products and is currently negotiating to sell the company and its impressive catalog of video products.

In the meantime, the Man’s Hand website (www.manshandfilms.com) is still active, offering all of their videos by download or DVD, in addition to back issues of Red Tails. For those interested in attending Camp Red Tails, a group of regular campers have taken over that phase of the company, and inquires can be addressed to Mr. C.R. Taylor at CampRTLLC@gmail.com.

Included in the attachments are the cover of the 1996 video catalog, some of the earliest videos (that had a soundtrack), ads for a couple of favorite films, a cover/ad for Red Tails Magazine, a flyer from the 2006 Folsom Street Fair and a color catalog page from a more recent video. • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 5) Paul Baressi

The artist Copper continues with his exploration of the History of male on male Spanking videos in this instalment he discusses Control T studio’s controversial actor Paul Baressi

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS

    CONTROL-T STUDIOS : PART 2

    PAUL BARESSI

Beginning in 1988, actor Paul Baressi (aka Joe Hammer) made his first appearance on a film for Control-T Studios. A former Colt Model in the 1970’s, Baressi had a macho, dominant appearance with a dark moustache or beard, receding hairline, muscular physique with a hairy chest and he often puffed on a cigar. After appearing in magazines like Playgirl and Mandate, he became one of the highest paid male adult film actors through the 1970’s. While his performances were often over-the-top, still photographs from his films helped to sell his videos around the world and create his image as an ultimate authority figure.

Baressi’s first video for Control-T was “The Disciplinary Hearings” (CTS-39) in which he created the character of Mr. Willis, a tough parole officer who spanks and paddles four young wards, with a mixture of humiliation, verbal and physical abuse that left both the boys and his office completely trashed. It was popular enough to inspire three sequels (CTS-53, 68 & 87) Other videos for Control-T included “The Painters” (CTS-42), “Good Cop, Bad Cop” (CTS-50), “Punished in the Basement” (CTS-77), “A Relative Spanking” (CTS-78) and “My Dad Beats My Ass” (CTS-85).

Nicknaming him “The Sultan of Swat,” Control-T released the “Paul Baressi Special” featuring highlights from his first four videos. He was also included in several of their compilation videos like “Men in Uniform” and the “Best of CTS” series. After Control-T stopped producing new videos, a final compilation of his videos was released under the title, “Paul Baressi Superstar.”

In addition to his films for Control-T, Paul appeared in two other male-spanking videos for Paradox Pictures. In May of 1995 he played a naval commander in “Spare the Rod – 2” and a year later he portrayed the horribly bored and overaged pledge-master in their film “The Woodshed.”

Paul Baressi’s career in the world of entertainment actually began in 1975, when he was working as a personal assistant for Raquel Welch in the film “The Wild Party.” He was given a small (uncredited) role as a bartender in that film. In 1990, Baressi became involved in several public scandals, while working at the “enforcer” for disgraced celebrity detective Anthony Pellicano. At one-point Baressi claimed to have had a 2-year sexual affair with actor John Travolta, in addition to announcing that he had proof of gay relationships involving other celebrities like Michael Jackson and Tom Cruise.

In total, Paul Baressi appeared in 10 different videos for Control-T, shooting the final one in 1996. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Baressi mocked his career making the statement that “No one respects a porn actor.” At a pride festival in West Hollywood in the late 90’s, Paul berated his experiences of making male spanking videos and refused to discuss them.

I have included several ads of Paul Baressi from Control-T products. They include the color cover of the 1996 Control-T catalog, as well as a flyer for his first video and several other photos or ads.

  • A Spanking History Lesson From Copper (Part 4) Control T

The artist Copper continues with his exploration of the History of male on male Spanking videos in this instalment he discusses Control T studio

A SHORT HISTORY OF MALE SPANKING VIDEOS

    CONTROL T STUDIOS

n 1980, Control-T Studios, was founded by Mark Powers (not his real name), in Mission Hills, California. Although incorporated then, it wasn’t until August of 1984 that Mark released his first video, “Golden Rule” and “Lesson Learned” (CTS-1). The Control-T style of film-making was slick and professional for their day, using some location shots, but mostly filmed in their warehouse studio. Due to the lewd act laws of the day, the earliest videos never showed any genitalia, although as times changed and other companies began including actual sex acts along with the spanking, they also began including total nudity.

Control-T’s earliest videos were sold on VHS or Beta cassettes, ranging in price from $11.95 to $79.95, with some videos (the “FMO” series) only available to members who paid an annual fee of $39.95 – $59.95 for these exclusive offers and discounts. Initially all of their videos were also offered in photosets and audio-only cassettes.

While the primary demographic for Control-T was the production of all-male spanking films, the company did venture into several short-lived fetish experiments including body-shaving and bondage videos. They also offered a small number of spanking videos with young men being punished by dominant women. There were about six videos that featured an all-black cast, marketed separately and listed as “CBV” rather than “CTS” in their catalog.

In 1985, Control-T began publishing Hot Bottoms Magazine, selling for $5 per issue. Each black-and-white issue was approximately 24 pages long, photocopied and stapled along the spine. Each issue featured fiction stories (some with original illustrations), classified ads and photos from their videos. The 55th and final issue of Hot Bottoms was published in March of 1992. Staring in July of 1990, Control-T also published a series of seven slick full-color magazines called Spankography. These periodicals featured scenes from their videos, along with popular stories that had previously appeared in Hot Bottoms. Spankography sold by mail order or in adult bookstores for $8 per issue.

Behind the scenes, Mark Powers had been studying to become a lawyer and, in 1988 when he passed the California Bar Exam, he decided it was in his best interest to sell the company. Control-T was purchased by another fetish producer called Leoram, Inc. It was at this time that the operation of the Control-T brand was now helmed by Steve Powers, rather than Mark.

That transaction began the demise of Control-T, since the new owners really didn’t understand the spanking fetish. Over time, their original production began using spanking as foreplay for sex, or missing it with other fetishes such as cross-dressing or extreme bondage as part of the plot. In 1999 they began purchasing the distribution rights to inferior male-spanking videos shot in Eastern Europe, and in 2003, the final video to be shot by Control-T (White Collar Crimes) was released.

In all, Control-T Studios released 139 videos. In their final years, they simply repackaged or renamed videos from their catalog, and by 2013 the company ceased to exist. While most Control-T videos are no longer available, a few of their older films are currently listed on sites like VideoClips and GayHotMovies using video-on-demand. A recent check of PornHub included 15 CTS films or clips for free viewing.

As usual, I am including some of their earliest advertising, including a few pages of the first Control-T Catalog that sold for $5 by mail order. This included a letter from Mark Powers, introducing the company to its customers, as well as single-photo listings for their first few videos and an ad for Hot Bottoms magazine. As time went on and they produced more videos, they would regularly mail out full page flyers to customers around the world, with multiple pictures and expanded storylines, and I have included a random selection of those.
