The Birching table
This device for securing young delinquents for punishment originated in Scotland. Mainly used for birching, the tawse was also used as a punishment on this table. It is said by some who received it to be more dreaded. The last recorded judicial birching on the British mainland* was in Fort William in 1948.

The one thing the gents at CP4Men will not tolerate is boys being late! Colin kept them waiting far too long so it was an excellent excuse to spank his bottom. When three handsome young detainees at a California juvenile correctional center are ordered to attend the weekly Detention Work Detail for the fifth week in a row, the Director decides that an alternative form of discipline is required and he calls in a specialist – The Motivator. Sent to their barracks to wait, once Fred Stevens shows up the lads’ attitudes quickly begin to change. Getting another boy in to trouble had led to Mark Peterson (Jirka Mendez) a senior lad, to appear in front of the Headmaster just before lights out. The Headmaster was appalled that this senior would let a junior boy take the blame for something he has clearly done. To make the point he had summoned the other boy to witness the punishment to be handed out to Peterson.

The lads enter through the attic which is also used as a spare storeroom. Its here that it all goes wrong when one of the boys knocks over an object that alerts the security guard who happens to be on his rounds. Bad timing, oh yes! The lads are rounded up by the guard and taken down to the main fitness gym. Here the owner is persuaded to let the boys go but only if they take a punishment from his security chief Mr Sharpe. With little option the boys agree, rather than the Police being called, they’ll be off prison for sure if caught again this time.

Mr Sharpe believes in the old ways and the boys certainly won’t be leaving until their bare bottoms are red raw and throbbing. Having observed the numerous modern failed methods of discipline over the years, he knows exactly what two misbehaving lads need to remind them firmly just how to act in future!
