Pants On Fire

Supporting the family business is an important thing, it makes sure food is put on the table and bills are paid. Unfortunately two younger members don’t see it that way.

The two boys, Jack (David Hines) and Michael (Joey White) think that staying at home and playing games is far preferable. The are both caught shirking at home.

Michael blames his younger brother for leading him astray. For this young Jack gets a good bare bottom whacking with a wooden spoon ..

The Birching table

The second on the court list is Gordon Davis (David Hines) He has been a regular at the court and the Magistrate can seen no other way now that to give this offending boy a short sharp shock.

He will lay face down on the birching table and endure the birches scorching sting.

The Birching table

This device for securing young delinquents for punishment originated in Scotland. Mainly used for birching, the tawse was also used as a punishment on this table. It is said by some who received it to be more dreaded. The last recorded judicial birching on the British mainland* was in Fort William in 1948.
