Age Verification

As advised in a previous posting, the government of the United Kingdom recently introduced legislation requiring internet sites containing adult material to verify the age of their users. As I stated at the time, JockSpank has been looking into this matter in order to determine how we can best comply with these regulations.

A number of adult sites have responded to the legislation by blocking access to their sites by users within the United Kingdom. However, following the decision this week by the United States Supreme Court, opening the way for various states to effect legislation requiring adult verification, it appears that a requirement for age verification will soon become the norm.

Therefore, please note that JockSpank will shortly be installing technology asking users to verify their ages.

JockSpank is not a commercial enterprise, but a free to access site. We do not sell adult material, and full length adult videos etc. can not be downloaded or viewed (streamed) directly on this site. Therefore, we have taken the view that a simple to use technology, which causes minimal inconvenience to our visitors, will be appropriate. However, we regret the inevitable inconvenience this will cause.

There will be a further update on this matter shortly

  1. I can understand your statement, and as long as there’s minimal inconvenience in the changes, as I would not want to lose access to your emails with their brief videos.

  2. These are sad times. Unless said technology is simply a question of “Are you 18 or older?” with a Yes/No button, anything more intrusive (such as asking for and ID uploading), I fear will probably end 99% of the traffic here. You might consider formally transferring control to a non-UK citizen and/or move hosting to a country/state that respects freedom.

    • Whilst it was confined to the UK, there were options, as I mentioned a number of sites have blocked all UK based IP addresses, although we were reluctant to take that approach, as the UK constitutes the third-largest source of our visitors. However, this week’s Supreme Court decision has changed the game.

I am not convinced it will damage the industry as much as people fear it will. I have no shame about enjoying the legal material I enjoy, and I am certainly not going to give it up, even if I have to jump through a few hoops to get to it.

      • I think the issue here is not so much age-verification in and of itself, but what will be done with the data obtained from said verification? Is it being saved? By whom? What are their security practices? What happens when their database is leaked or hacked? I’ll reserve judgement until I see what the hoops are exactly though.

Amazing that UK would be as close minded as the current US Dictators in our current Oligarchy. Self proclaimed King-Trump refused to put his hand on the Bible as legally required during his swearing in. Yet he judges people and actively uses his followers’ radical religious beliefs to support his sexist, racist, and homophobic acts. THANKS for doing your best to provide what your consumers want despite the many naive, irrational hypocrites that claim to be devout loyal Christians.

  4. It is not just the Trump administration, the previous administration was hostile to other aspects of Free Speech, which are equally vital to a healthy society, Also, it is various states which brought the legislation to the Supreme Court, not the US government, and, after all, it was the UK Labour government which set this all in motion, and they are about diametrically opposed to the current GOP as you can get. Politicians of all stripes crave control, it is the nature of the beast.

Many activists within the adult gay community have not acted in our own best interests in recent years, and have taken positions which have undermined the significant progress which was made between the emergence of the gay rights movement in the 1970s and the early 2000s. However, that is an argument for another day, we are where we are, and we need to ensure that changes to the law, and to social attitudes, do not limit us as adults, or what we enjoy as adults

The adult entertainment industry is a multi-trillion dollar business, it is surely not beyond the ability of man to come up with a cost-effective adult verification system, which is easy to use and is non-intrusive.

Meanwhile, JockSpank will seek to instal a suitable Age verifying method which causes as little inconvenience to our users as possible.

  5. In the United States, this is not an issue that can be chalked up to “both sides do it.” The Supreme Court decision was 6-3, with all six Republicans (including the three Trump appointees) voting for the decision and all three Democrats dissenting. All twenty-four legislatures that have passed age-verification laws are controlled by Republican majorities in red or purple states. Whatever your views on the other matters you allude to (the Biden administration, the work of LGBT activists), “which party is politically responsible for age verification laws on adult websites?” is about as cut and dry as it’s possible for a political question to be.

In any case, I appreciate the work you put into running the site and hope you’re able to find a convenient solution.

    • Thank you, that is very kind of you.

I don’t want to make this a political issue, the world is changing for various reasons, and we need to adapt to it, so that it causes minimal upheaval.
