My dad was in WWII and trained at Camp Adair Oregon—Army—He said youg guys got spanked bare over the knee of the drill sergeant and they cryed like children when spanked–but went on to be very fine soldiers—-He said the guys who got the spankings were extremly young—and did not hold itagainst the spanker in the least–it was like they got what was coming to them—I would be quite sure it was even then against army rules—-but it did happen in WWII training
